As we climbed through a window to gain access to this abandoned power station, yelling could be heard echoing through the building. They were speaking french and they did not sound happy, they wanted us to leave. As we made our way inside we quickly discovered it was just a group of 4 or 5 scrappers stealing metal. As we moved through this massive building we would soon discover another group of metal thieves slowly tearing the place apart. It was busy for a building that had been closed for about 5 years.
Powerplant IM was a coal fired power plant and like many other coal burning plants around the world it was shut down in favour of cleaner electricity generating options. The plant began operation in 1921 and ceased to produce electricity in 2007.
