Stenly (14:02:23): Me to teda moc neprekvapilo, ale podhodnoceny to asi je, i kdyz asi ne radove. Moje prumerna rocni uhlikova stopa z litani je za poslednich let cca 1.2 tuny rocne. Ale ja litam asi docela hodne proti jinym lidem.

Co principialne nechapu, jsou lidi, kteri hlasaji ze by se nemelo litat letadlem protoze uhlikova stopa. Zaprvy je naprosto utopicka predstava, ze se vsichni takhle dobrovolne zkoordinujeme a nejak tim prispejeme k zachrane klimatu. Pokud to je objektivne spatne, tak se to ma proste regulovat centralne. A hadej co, presne to uz delame. Letecky spolecnosti si platej emisni povolenky za CO2 co prolitaj a to se odrazi v cene letenek. A stejny emisni povolenky si kupujou ostatni prumyslovi vypousteci, takze se automaticky balancuje, jestli se bude vyrabet elektrina v uhelce, nebo se bude litat letadlem, pripadne v jakym pomeru. A spotrebitel nemusi nic resit, a jen se podiva do penezenky jestli na to ma. Sem sice levicak jak poleno, ale za predpokladu ze jsme si odsouhlasili ze chceme snizovat emise CO2, tak ten system svuj cil podle me plni daleko lip nez nejaka dobrovolna koordinace lidi :)

Emise z letecké dopravy jsou 0,96 mil. tun tun CO2 (0,7 %, 90 kg na obyvatele ročně) a odpovídá emisím vyprodukovaným lety z letišť v ČR. Je tedy pravděpodobně podhodnocený (mnoho Čechů létá z Vídně či Bratislavy) a neodpovídá zcela množství emisí, které Češi způsobí (typicky např. let českého člověka do New Yorku s přestupem v Amsterdamu se započítá do zobrazených emisí jen jako Praha–Amsterdam, zatímco emise z letu Amsterdam–New York se započtou Nizozemí). Není také započítáno, že emise vypuštěné vysoko v atmosféře mají přibližně dvojnásobný efekt. Snížit emise z dopravy je možné přechodem na nízkouhlíková paliva (např. na elektřinu, biometan nebo vodík), zvýšením podílu vlakové a autobusové dopravy a snížením nutnosti přepravy (což může znamenat třeba bydlet blíže práci).

It is implicit in our method of parliamentary democracy that the contest between the parties will roughly serve the public interest as parties are incentivised to correct the obvious errors of their opponents, offer the public what they want, and thereby gain power, so that atavistic instincts are roughly channelled in ways that help society. This works in the sense that, at least where democratic institutions and the rule of law are embedded, elections stop parties and their leaders from becoming too extreme in the sense of undermining the basic principles of a market-based democracy. A recent survey of 100 MPs by the Royal Statistical Society found that only 40% of MPs correctly answered a simple probability question (much simpler than the type of problem they routinely opine on): ‘what is the probability of getting two heads from flipping a fair coin twice?’ Despite their failures on a beginner question, about three-quarters nevertheless said they are confident in their ability to deal with numbers. Issues such as ‘how financial models contributed to the 2008 crisis’ or ‘intelligence and genetics’ cannot be understood in even a basic way without some statistical knowledge, such as normal distribution and standard deviation, yet most MPs do not understand much simpler concepts than these. They also have little knowledge of evolutionary systems (biological or cultural), and little understanding of technology. (How many of those at a senior level dealing with Ebola discussions or financial market disasters recently have any idea about the topology of ‘scale free networks’, cf. HERE? The basic concepts, as opposed to detailed modelling, are not hard to grasp but they do not appear in the typical education of ministers or senior officials.)
